if和whether的区别

if和whether都可以表示是否的意思，两者虽然都可以引导从句，但是却有一定的区别。

if和whether的区别

whether和if的区别一：引导的从句判断

1.引导主语从句时，只能用whether不能用if。

Eg. It is not sure whether will rain tomorrow.

明天是否会下雨还不确定。

2.引导表语从句时，只能用whether不能用if。

Eg. The key point is whether they can win the competition.

关键点是他们能否赢得比赛。

3.动词discuss后面只能用whether。

Eg. They’re discussing whether Ming Li is qualified to participate in competition.

他们正在讨论李明是否有资格参加比赛。

4.引导同位语时，可以用if，但更多的是用whether。

Eg. The question whether he’ll like the gift is unknown.

他是否会喜欢礼物的问题还不知道。

5.引导宾语从句时，用if不用whether。

Eg. Please let me know if you can accept company arrangement.

请让我知道你是否接受公司的安排。

6.引导条件状语从句时，多用if不用whether。

Eg. You must pass the exam if you practise more.

如果你多练习的话肯定能通过这次考试。

Whether和if的区别二：根据两个词的意思判断

If使用时更多的意思是由于某个特定的条件才产生某个结果。而whether更多的是表示选择或者提供可代替的方案。Whether会比if更为正式，它本身也暗示了正反两方面的可能性。所以当有一个结果并且依赖于一定的条件时就用if，如果有某种形式的选择或者替代方案的时候就用whether。

1.We will go hiking if it doesn’t rain.

如果明天没下雨我们就去远足吧。

（特定的条件是“没下雨”，结果是“去远足”）

2.Tell me whether you want black or white dress for party?

告诉我你到底要穿黑色的礼服还是白色的？

（此处表示选择，“黑色”还是“白色”）

Whether和if的区别三：固定搭配和使用场合

当我们使用whether的时候通常会用短语whether...or not...，而if则通常单独使用，表示一种可能性。两个词都能用在转述别人的言论，但whether比if更适合用在正式场合中。

1.I don’t care whether she likes me or not.

我不在乎她到底喜不喜欢我。

（表示的意思并不十分明确，就要用whether的固定搭配）

2.Many students will choose to call for a takeout if school allows.

很多学生会选择点外卖，如果学校允许的话。

（强调学校允许点外卖的可能性用if）

3.Susan doesn’t know whether/if he has girlfriend.

苏珊不确定他是否有女朋友。

if造句 

1、I could do it now, if you like.  如果你愿意的话，我现在就可以做这事。  

2、You can come with us if you want to.  如果你愿意可以跟我们一起来。  

3、Put your hand up if you need more paper.  若有人还要纸，请举手。

whether造句

1、Whether we need more food depends on how many people turn up.  我们是否需要更多的食物，这要视到场人数而定。  

2、I asked whether they could change my ticket.  我问他们是否可以给我换票。  

3、I'm not sure whether I should tell you this.  我拿不准该不该把这事告诉你。
